one day a man went to an auction. while there, he bid on a parrot. he really wanted this bird, so he got caught up in the bidding. he kept on bidding, but kept getting outbid, so he bid higher and higher and higher.

一天一个人去参加拍卖。他相中了一只鹦鹉，他真的很想要这只鸟儿，于是他在竞价中紧紧跟着。他一直出价，出得比别人都高，最终，价格一路水涨船高。

finally, after he bid way more than he intended, he won the bid - the parrot was his at last!

在出到比预想要高得多得的价格后，他赢了这次竞价，鹦鹉终于是他的了！

as he was paying for the parrot, he said to the auctioneer, "i sure hope this parrot can talk. i would hate to have paid this much for it, only to find out that he can't talk!"

他去付钱时对拍卖人说，“我希望这只鹦鹉一定要会说话。如果出了这么高的价，它还不能说话的话，我肯定会很难过的。”

"don't worry." said the auctioneer, "he can talk. who do you think kept bidding against you?"
